Bop – Totally Spellbinding!

Bop – Totally Spellbinding!

http://

So bloggers its been a while since my last post after saying i would try to get a post out as often as possible… Apologies! My wife and I have been busy with our latest addition to the family these last few months and our second daughter is amazing!!

I come back to dip my toe with a musical feast for your curious ears. Bop….

Bop is signed to Med School in the UK but originally hails from St Petersburg in Russia. According to his about me page on the Med School web site (medschoolmusic.com) he has a particular taste for 8bit games… that doesn’t come out in his music at all! But truly he manages to build suspense and drama with every bit-crushed note one of his releases “The Amazing Adventures of One Curious Pixel” and I for one love it! It conjures up memories of the suspense i had as a kid playing 8-bit games while fuelling my love for deep, transient, after party floating Drum and Bass.

Check him out… You won’t be disappointed

Up for Grabs…Right Now!! Summer is NOT Done Just Yet.

You can see the signs all around, the turning over of some leaves, the stinging nettles are looking old and have the beards they grow towards their end of days, the days are drawing in…. Yes thats right summer IS drawing its last few breaths before it sets off for pastures new for another year. That sense of longing is setting in as we slip past the August Bank Holiday and move towards the start of a new school year. Its over, dead, buried for another agonising 9 months and between now and that happy time again we only have the “joy” of christmas to look forward too….. ALL IS NOT LOST!! SOME OF SUMMERS BEST BITS ARE STILL FOR THE TAKING, LITERALLY!!!

ImageToday my 2 and a half year old and I spent 20 mins in the small and never used service road between the end of our garden and the ends of the gardens in the next road over, its overgrown with nettles and other weeds and has a grass stripe all the way down the middle and i think we see no more than 1 car per week use it! This is BRAMBLE country… Those evil palm shredding, fast growing, swines of all weeds seem to take this place for their own! The whole road is lined with them and my daughter and I took advantage of this today… We spent 20 mins looking for the best, the AAA grade fruits (well i did, she just made it her goal to get purple hands) and after we have picked what seemed like a ton of thee little shinny black clusters of juicy goodness we went back in to our garden, my wife was waiting…. The purple hand task that i had set my little girl with accomplishing was not a welcome sight. Did we pick up any Vanish?

I went in to the kitchen and had grand ideaImages of jam or conserve of some lesser refined nature that would be amazing over toast tomorrow morning and after doing some research I found that i had come up somewhat short of the 3-4lb needed to make a good batch of Jam. I was very proud of the 500gms we had caught so decided on a cake, i followed the recipe lined at the bottom of this page, I am now the proud owner of some lovely cakes sat waiting for a cup of tea and some free time to enjoy.

So my message is clear, summer may be on the way to autumn but the work that summer has put in is ready for the plucking, many fruits will be coming good over the next few weeks so go out and see what you can find, ask if its on private land first and if your going for less than common fruits then seek out a bit of knowledge first. Next month sees Fungi come up, I for one will be on the prowl for some of our summers works to lace my taste buds and spark my imagination.

Enjoy.

One of The Best New D&B DJ’s of Now…. Etherwood

Guys,

I have been really good so far and not dropped any reference to my musical kink, Drum and Bass… However it would be completely rude to not break my D&B cherry in any other way than to post a mix from Etherwood…

Etherwood is signed to Hospital Records sister label Med School. Check them out at http://www.medschoolmusic.com. He has his first fully produced album due out in the fall and i for one cant wait to get more of this amazing DJ/Producer in my life. His miss are for the more refined ear that sits so well with Med Schools position in the Drum and Bass genre due to its slightly darker/grittier approach in contrast to Hospitals more liquid/main stream feel that has been raising D&B to the crowd for over 15 years now…

Check him out and….

Enjoy.

Creativity v’s Creating… A Myth That Could Kill Talent

Quite an ominous start to my next blog entry I know guys but we had to go somewhere different for my next outing, otherwise we would just end up in a world of bread and hip hop! What a mess that would be, I’m sure fiddy and snoop dog wouldn’t be “down” with that. So I started to question something that bothers me greatly, the question that gripes at my soul and the attitude some people take that could stifle any budding talent….. “So are you a creative sort then??” The answer I have to that is NO! Well not in the context you mean with your condescending tone anyway…. I use that question to exemplify all the many ways others can sap the enthusiasm from another persons body!

Something you need to know about me is that I have about as much talent in my little toe as my whole body, I posses no expert skills in anything guys and that is something that I am fine with. The real question is do I possess creativity, not am I creative…. And personally that question I feel I would answer yes! I love creating, how good I am at crating stuff is a different story but no one every did anything the first time round perfectly, did they?? Michael Jordan has been quoted saying

“I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Now that story could have ended so differently, just try to imagine a time when young Mike missed his first shot as a kid, what could have happened if his coach or a friend made a stupid comment and crushed his budding urge to play hoop. What if Mr and Mrs Dylan told their son Robert to “quit that racket”…

We all see this type of negative behaviour that is sometimes meant with malice but often in jest, that friend who thinks its funny to make a snipe at your budding journey on a new creative road as its not something your yet good at and your first efforts may seem infant like but rather than giving a positive pat on the back, some constructive feedback or just an “awesome”, often these new beginnings get a snigger or a nonchalant shrug, not the encouragement we all need to go on and be amazing. This brings me back to my question… Creativity v’s Creating…. I feel I am a creative person and this manifests itself in a desire to try new things and learn new things. Ultimately to see if this is “my thing” and lately I have been spreading my wings in some new areas, blogging being one of them and for the most part I am fortunate enough to work and socialise with like minded positive people who will provide effective and stimulating positive affirmation but some behave in the manor that I have mentioned above and whilst I am big enough and old enough to shrug this off or laugh along it could easily quell the flame so to speak.

So I ask you all, question yourself. Do you encourage those around you, do you nurture the smallest of flames, do you try to leave everything you touch in a better place than you found it… If the answer is yes then keep doing that, keep up the good work, you are special! If you can’t say yes to that then you need to stop and think, you could have just stopped the next Chopin from ever of happening or a budding amateur from going pro… Question your actions and be a bowl for great things to be made within…. Not the lid that caps it.

Creativity breeds talent, talent breeds creation, creation breeds inspiration.

Enjoy.
